Cesc Fabregas outbids Everton and Wolves for deadline day transfer as David Moyes left short
Everton failed to sign a right-back on transfer deadline day.
Merlin Rohl was the only arrival at Everton on the final day of the transfer window, in a disappointing end to the market for David Moyes.
Everton have not paid a fee for a right-back in a summer transfer window for 20 years now, after the failure to sign one on deadline day.
The last one was Phil Neville in August 2005, and it looks set to be a major weakness for Moyes’ side this season.
Everton were in Omar El Hilali race with Cesc Fabregas
Everton were linked with a loan move for Barcelona star Hector Fort, but it looks like they were looking at the other Barcelona club.
A report from Mundo Deportivo on 2 September claims that the Blues were in the race for Espanyol defender Omar El Hilali.
It states that while Nottingham Forest and Wolves also submitted bids, Cesc Fabregas’ Como were the highest bidder at £12million, but the player remained in Spain rather than moving.
Everton had a 7/10 transfer window
Everton’s loan signing of Jack Grealish was a masterstroke, as he started life on Merseyside in tremendous form after leaving the shackles of Pep Guardiola.
Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall has also been a revelation after joining from Chelsea, where he was not playing regularly after his move from Leicester.
Thierno Barry looks more like a work in progress right now and will have to bide his time for a chance to succeed Beto.

Adam Aznou and Tyler Dibling are exciting signings that have the potential to become world-class players for the Toffees in the future.
The additions of Mark Travers and Tom King to the goalkeeping group were necessary after Asmir Begovic and Joao Virginia departed.
The only criticism of the Blues is that they failed to get a right-back through the door, leaving Moyes desperately short in that area, but they did try to get a deal done.
It remains to be seen whether it affects Everton’s season in a negative way or not, but it was a clear area of weakness, and they failed to address it, despite having a whole summer to do so.
